Bauxite, also known as alum earth, is a type of ore containing aluminium hydroxide minerals. Industrially viable bauxite is a general term for ores mainly composed of gibbsite and boehmite (monohydrate alumina minerals). It serves as the primary raw material for the production of primary aluminium, which accounts for over 90% of global bauxite consumption.
Alumina: 40%–70%, plus silica, iron oxide, titanium oxide, etc.
Variable colours, commonly white, off-white, pale yellow, brown and so on.
Diaspore, boehmite, gibbsite, etc.
Mohs hardness: 1–3
Density: approximately 2.4–2.5 g/cm³
High-alumina bauxite falls into two main categories: monohydrate-type high-alumina bauxite and trihydrate-type high-alumina bauxite. The monohydrate type is predominantly composed of monohydrate alumina minerals, including diaspore and boehmite (also known as boehmite). The trihydrate type is mainly composed of gibbsite. The high-alumina bauxite produced in the vast majority of producing areas in China belongs to the monohydrate type.

Mainly used for alumina extraction to produce metallic aluminium.
Used to manufacture various refractory materials, such as refractory bricks and castables.
Applied as a raw material or additive for ceramic bodies in ceramic production.
Primarily used for making abrasive tools such as sandpaper and grinding wheels.
Raw Bauxite:Bauxite ore mined directly from mines without high-temperature calcination.
Bauxite Clinker:The product obtained after high-temperature calcination of raw bauxite.
Raw Bauxite:Relatively soft and porous.
Bauxite Clinker:Higher hardness with dense structure.
Raw Bauxite:Variable colours including off-white, dark grey, brown, etc., with a relatively rough surface.
Bauxite Clinker:Relatively uniform colours, mostly white, light grey, etc., with a comparatively smooth surface after calcination.
Raw Bauxite: 1.It serves as a key raw material for alumina extraction in the alumina industry. 2. It can also be used to make basic refractory materials. However, due to inferior performance compared with bauxite clinker, it is generally applied in scenarios with low refractory performance requirements.
Bauxite Clinker: 1. It is a key raw material for manufacturing high-grade refractory materials, such as linings for steel ladles and blast furnaces used in steelmaking. 2. It is also used in the abrasive industry; its high hardness makes it suitable as an abrasive material.
